a Christian’s news, views, opinions and occasional poetry …

setting up shop …

Posted by Mathew | 21 January 08

Well! I am Mr Procrastination. Of that, there is no doubt. I don’t know how long I’ve been thinking of putting a blog together, but it has been a long, long while. (You ever heard of that live-in relative, Mr Excuses? Yeah, well, he’s been a bunk-buddy of mine for longer than I care to admit. I’m drafting my eviction notice to him at the moment.) I suppose the biggest hurdle for me in launching myself into the blogosphere is having something - a theme, a purpose - to blog about; I think I may have found something that I can keep going that is not necessarily an ‘online, personal diary’ of crap (which most personal blogs are - I want to do more than that). That theme/purpose is to express my christian viewpoint on matters of the day - be it social, newsworthy items, or topics that rile me up about the christian life (or lack thereof) in our churches and communities.

Why?

To be one avenue for me to fulfill part of the Great Commision that all Christians are called to act upon:

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:16-20

At the moment, I’m just ’setting up shop’. It took me a few days to work out just how simple the installation instructions for Wordpress actually are (and they are simple … just not for me, apparently!) and I’m still finding my feet in terms of personalising the templates, getting my head around Wordpress’s Control Panel and the frightening aspects of putting my thoughts out for all to see (and criticize). But here I am. I have a few blog posts already in draft format and - in reality - probably only require me to hit the ‘publish’ button to get started. We shall see how this all pans out.

I welcome you along to share this journey with me - whether you agree or disagree with what I write. I’m also excited about where this blog can go - I trust the content to Jesus and to the guidance and correction of the Holy Spirit as I make mistakes and venture into some unfamiliar territory.

I’m here to learn and to grow equally as much as I am to share and to critique.

For God’s glory and in His Love.

Regards, Mathew
